Visitors and residents are enjoying all 26 miles of our coastline today. All beaches are open and we’ve received one report of a small patch of tar balls washing ashore in the western portion of the county. Calm surf conditions exist with green flags flying over the beaches.
The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for this afternoon so beachgoers are advised to exercise caution.
Due to the light impacts over the last several weeks the Walton County Sherriffs office is reporting the number of cleanup workers on the beaches is being reduced.
According to the latest NOAA forecast persistent ESE and E winds are expected to continue through Thursday with speeds of 10-20 kts. Satellite analysis and overflights indicate surface oil has moved west, away from the beaches.
We have received no tar ball reports this morning and all 26 miles of our coastline are open for enjoyment.
At the urging of the Florida Department of Health, the local health department has posted Oil Impact Notices at beach access points, advising beachgoers of health tips to follow if noticeable oil product is present. Beachgoers are advised to exercise personal judgment as conditions can change quickly.
According to the latest NOAA surface oil forecast surface oil continues to move south/southeast away from shore and a persistent period of SE winds is forecast to begin today and continue through the weekend (which hinders eastward movement of the oil).
According to the latest NOAA surface oil forecast remote sensing imagery and overflights indicate that oil from the source is continuing to move to the south/southeast and there is very little oil remaining to the north. Our region remains outside of NOAAs zone of uncertainty.
There are Oil Impact Notices posted for all Walton County beaches and signs may remain in place until local authorities determine that beaches are no longer impacted by the oil spill.
Today there are 1,370 clean-up workers staged in the county and ready to respond to any impacted area.
Water and air quality test results continue to be consistent for this time of year.
According to the latest Department of Environmental Protection update this afternoon, east winds will continue for the next few days, and NOAA forecasts no direct impacts along Floridas coastline through Tuesday.
Daily air quality reports are provided through the Health Department in coordination with the EPA The Florida DEP is responsible for regularly testing water quality and will keep beachgoers informed of conditions.

There is a chance this area will not see any impact from the spill if it gets pulled by the Gulf Stream, if that becomes the case our area will not be affected. If it does impact our area we will notify you as to the conditions and as to what our local officials mandate.
We have received a number of calls and e-mails, and are informing visitors that the coastline of Beaches of South Walton are open and ready to be enjoyed. Visitors are currently enjoying all 15 of our beautiful white sand beaches.
If any of our communities are impacted, this website will be updated to reflect that and to provide the latest possible information. As part of its commitment to preparedness, Walton County today created a local task force to address health and public safety as related to the oil spill. Beachgoers are reminded not to handle or clean oil from the beach, but rather to call 850- 267-2000 if they spot tar balls or oil.

The Walton County Tourist Development Council (TDC) announced today that GRAMMY-winner Vince Gill will present a free outdoor Back to the Beach concert Saturday Sept. 25 in Beaches of South Walton as part of the TDCs ongoing efforts to welcome visitors back to this vibrant coastal community.
We're showing thanks to our visitors and residents with the opportunity to experience the musical talents of legendary Vince Gill said Dawn Moliterno, executive director of the Beaches of South Walton TDC. We hope this will entice those who have never been to our destination with an added incentive to come and see our beautiful beaches and communities as well as welcome back our loyal visitors who may not have made it here this summer.
